Tubal Ligation Doctors
Tubal ligation – also commonly called “having your tubes tied” – is a surgical method of permanently preventing a woman from getting pregnant. Typically, tubal ligation cannot be reversed – and if reversal is attempted, it requires major surgery that may not be effective.
During a tubal ligation, the fallopian tubes (which the eggs use to travel from the ovaries to the uterus) are cut, tied or surgically blocked. This prevents any more eggs from traveling to the uterus, as well as blocks sperm from traveling up the fallopian tubes to the eggs.
Because having your “tubes tied” does not affect the uterus, a woman will still have her normal menstrual cycle after tubal ligation surgery.
Tubal ligation can be done at any time, including after childbirth or during another abdominal surgery. It is also frequently performed at the same time as a C-section, for women who wish to have no more pregnancies.
Our skilled and experienced Dearborn Heights and Grosse Pointe gynecologists and surgeons offer state-of-the-art outpatient tubal ligation procedures using minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery. The result is a smaller incision, less pain, and a dramatically faster recovery time.
