Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Pelvic prolapse is a condition that occurs when the muscles and connective tissue in a woman’s pelvis weaken, stretch and tear. When this happens, the pelvic organs – uterus, cervix, bladder, rectum and bowel — are no longer supported by the pelvic floor and can fall from their normal position down into the vagina.

Pelvic prolapse is not only extremely uncomfortable and even painful, it is also embarrassing – interfering with sexual intimacy as well as daily activities.

The good news is that our caring and experienced gynecologic surgeons offer the latest advances in pelvic prolapse surgery – so that you no longer have to suffer with this debilitating condition.

Using state-of-the-art daVinci robotics, we can perform pelvic prolapse surgery through very small incisions with unmatched precision – offering patients better results, less risk of complications, and a much faster recovery.

If you are suffering from pelvic prolapse, our caring Dearborn Heights & Grosse Pointe area surgeons can help you.

Causes of Pelvic Prolapse

There are many causes of pelvic organ prolapse. Some women may have hereditary factors that contribute to pelvic prolapse. Women over the age of 60 are more likely to suffer from pelvic prolapse due to aging of the pelvic floor, and weakness of the muscles and tissues resulting from hormonal changes of menopause.

In more rare cases, pelvic prolapse can be caused by trauma to the vagina and pelvic floor during childbirth. Certain diseases such as connective tissue disorders, can also lead to prolapse.

Smoking, obesity or extreme exercise activities also all put a woman at greater risk of suffering from pelvic prolapse.

Robotic Pelvic Prolapse Surgery
